Locals joined at Hoghton Tower to do some Christmas Shopping while supporting small businesses.

At 1pm on the 6th of November 2021 the UK marched together for the COP26 climate strike. As the rain poured in Manchester, hundreds of people of all ages and from all walks of life came together to demonstrate against climate change.

Thirsty and hungry customers have been flocking back to an independent coffee shop in Lower Broughton in the week since the Government restrictions on eating inside pubs, restaurants and cafes were lifted.

Salford Litter Heroes, an environmental conservation organisation, are demonstrating that they are a force for change by volunteering their spare time into keeping Salford’s streets clean. Nomad Coffee Company, a mobile coffee shop in Worsley, have joined the Salford Litter Heroes initiative, asking for volunteers to take part in a socially distanced litter pick around the Worsely area, in return for a hot beverage.

Lauren’s Sweet Shop is based in Salford and has been working hard after remoulding their business into providing home deliveries of sweet treats throughout the pandemic. Lauren Sweets, 30, said: “This year has been out of the normal for everyone. The team at The Tatton community cafe in Ordsall is helping out vulnerable residents by providing affordable meals on wheels throughout the pandemic. The Tatton is a charitable incorporated organisation that provides a community hub based in Ordsall, Salford. Its mission is to provide an accessible, friendly, and safe social centre to improve the quality of life for the local community.

More Salford pet lovers are being signed up during the pandemic to foster dogs in need. Intensive care nurse Ashley Williams, 27, from Irlam, is currently caring for rescued dogs Domino and Lara with her partner Johnny. She has adopted Domino and is currently fostering Lara from the Dogs4Rescue centre near Irlam.
